DISEASES

Keratoglobus

What is
Keratoglobus?

Keratoglobus is a rare and complex eye disease that causes extreme, generalized thinning of the cornea. Unlike other ectasias, the deformation takes on a spherical shape that affects the entire corneal structure.

This change alters the way light enters the eye, leading to severely reduced or distorted vision. It also gives the eye a protruding appearance and significantly increases the risk of corneal rupture or injury.

RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE:

Corneal Transplant

The surgeon precisely removes the affected tissue using a trephine or a femtosecond laser. The donated cornea is then shaped and carefully secured with fine sutures. This procedure restores corneal transparency and curvature, thereby improving vision.
